Eleven Years Celebrating...Artist in the Garden

This year marks the eleventh year of an artist tradition begun by Charles Atwood King and Karen  Lamitie-King in the summer of 1997. Beginning this year, however, Artist in the Garden is being sponsored by FOOTHILLS ARTSociety. Assuming the responsibilities of organizing the many aspects of this event are Joan Mazzacano, chairperson; Linda Sauther, graphics; Arnold Sauther, coordinator: Karen Lamitie-King, consultant.

All North Country artists who will be participating in Artist in the Garden are invited to visit at least one or all of the five country gardens. Artists are to use their media of choice to create art pieces inspired by these five garden sites:

 

· Tom and Rosemary Gallagher/Brown Road off Webster St. Road/July 19 with rain date July 20/10 to 4 PM.

· Diane Leifheit/Route 86...2 miles past Paul Smiths College on left going towards Saranac Lake/August 2 with raindate August 3/10 to 4 PM.

· Bonesteel’s Gardening Center/Route 11, 4 miles west of  Malone/August 9 with rain date August 10/artist may work sunup to sundown.

· Don and Yvonne Busch/Rainbow Lake/August 16 with rain date August 17/ 1 PM to sunset. Call to schedule other times to accommodate the artist. See included Events Brochure for further information.

Donna Foley/Vermontville/Sunday Sept 7 with rain date September 14/10 to 3 PM./Once in Vermontville, turn   off onto Swinyer Road and then right onto Paye Road. Go to 215 Paye Road/Four Dir

ELIGIBILITY:

This competition is open to all artists who participate in Artist in the Garden events for 2008. Each artist may enter up to two pieces. Two-dimensional work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging. Clip hangers are not accepted. Anyone needing framing will receive a 25% discount at forARTSake. Three dimensional works will be accepted.

ENTRIES:

Please deliver art work to forARTSake on Oct. 17, 18, 21, 22. forARTSake hours are as follows:   Weekdays 10-5/Sat. 10-4. Cost to enter Artist in the Garden Exhibit at NCCC is $10 for FOOTHILLS members and $20 for non-members. Make your check/money order payable to FOOTHILLS ARTSociety/Artist in the Garden . Introducing Exhibit Juror… Arnold Sauther

Arnold Sauther attended Buffalo State for his undergraduate degree and Ohio State for his masters. He studied art in Italy for a semester and in Mexico for a summer. He taught art in England for a year on a Fulbright scholarship. Now retired after many years of teaching secondary art at Salmon River Central, he enjoys being a full-time artist. He also enjoys using his time to study and to present art programs in the area schools.Arnold is very proud of his former art students who have gone on to become professional artists. He is encouraged by their success in art. He is also honored to be part of FOOTHILLS ARTSociety’s Scholarship Program. He was able to present three scholarships to area students as the first recipients of the FOOTHILLS Arnold  Sauther Scholarship established in May 2

Entry Procedure:

Fill in all forms completely. Make sure identification cards are               securely fastened to the backs of works submitted. Entry forms may be duplicated. A self-addressed stamped envelope or an email address must be included for notification.

Sale of Work:

Please indicate whether or not your work is for sale. Work is sold at the price listed on the form. FOOTHILLS ARTSociety receives 20%   commission and will add required NYS sales tax on all sales. All exhibited work not sold must be picked up by the artist on dates listed below.

Cash Awards:

Cash Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show, First, Second, and Third Places. Several Honorable Mentions will also be awarded.

  Entry Checklist:

1. Any three dimensional work must be suitable in size.

2. All works must be appropriately  framed and  wired for hanging.

3. An unrefundable $20.00 fee for up to two works must accompany entry. A $5.00 fee must be included for one additional work.

4. Place identification labels provided on back of each work.

Submitting work to exhibition is an agreement by artist to all conditions of the prospectus
